I have lived in Minnesota's Arrowhead for most of my life and as such have known many good lumberjacks and Ojibwe families. The stories told me by these people have shaped who I am and what I believe.
Minnesota is a wild and wonderful place with the wilderness just outside the door. Life and death struggles take place each and every day here in my neighborhood in the pines.

Last winter on an unusually cold and windy afternoon, I was struggling with my latest book and I felt as if someone was watching me. I looked out the window and a big timber wolf sat watching me from back by the barn. He was calmly surveying the world, cocking his head from side to side. Then after a few minutes staring at each other, he resumed his patrol of the pine forest, and I found new inspiration in my writing..
