My name is Derrik, and I am a writer that specializes in freewrite poetry. My philosophy to poetry is that poems tell stories. A true poet is a story teller at heart, so their work should be to tell stories. A poem, no matter if it is short or long, tells a story about the world, about the author, about the spiritual world, or even to tell something about the reader. That is why I write poems that feel more like short stories. Some would call this epic poetry; I call it plain literature. A poem is supposed to provoke a sense of emotion and feeling in the reader; just give them a story and that can happen easily. Whether its a sad story, a happy cheerful story, a tense frightening story, or a "here is the moral" kind of story, a poet can easily make the reader feel the right emotions with the right story.
