I began writing film criticism online in 2004. Around 2006 I began merging my Christian faith with my love for the art of film.
I saw that "Christian film" was on the rise, gaining more and more attention. Despite the increased budgets and larger shares of the box office, the overall genre was still undeveloped in regards to quality. The stories were amateur and the productions lacked a seriousness. I see them as Hallmark Cards put to film.
It is a common complaint by Christians that the culture is corrupt. If it is, Christians have no one but themselves to blame. Christians need to stop complaining and start creating works to counter the corrupting influences they see coming from Hollywood. These works need to be artful and of quality. A thoughtful small movie with no-name actors is better than a melodramatic after school special with D-grade has-beens.
This in mind, I have dedicated myself to teaching Christians about the art of film and calling for them to rethink the Christian subculture.
