Three essentials of correct education, functional tools, and spiritual empowerment describe the foundation of my life's work.

Background Information

Mo'olelo Ola: Hawaiian story of healing

Sharing the stories and vast background of traditional and contemporary Hawaiian healing lifestyles with readers, students, practitioners and teachers worldwide brings me deep satisfaction. Born and raised in the indigenous community on the big island of Hawai'i, I was fortunate to be accepted as a student of the healing and martial arts as a young man. These arts provided a foundation of values and personal lessons and experiences that offered methods for self-care and self-protection which added significantly to my ability to survive in the modern world.

Retired from clinical practice as a therapist and chiropractor, my current roles as a teacher and traditional healer continue to offer personal engagement and service to the communities at home and abroad. Adapting traditional models of wisdom as potential solutions to 21st century issues in health and lifestyle offer both challenge and reward to the visionary and health activist. Advocacy for health equality across the spectrum of society remains a vision rather than a reality. Much work remains to be done to restore health parity amongst indigenous peoples.

The difficulty that learners have in attaining a face-to-face relationship with an indigenous healer and teacher in Hawai'i may be alleviated by immersing into the history and contemporary descriptions of the traditions and ways of the kahuna. The use of books, videos and multi-media presentations on mobile devices provide each learner with sensory inputs that stimulate and propagate the learning experience.

These types of sensory stimuli may also lead to learners making a physical effort to engage in direct interpersonal contact with master teachers and practitioners of the healing or martial arts.

I welcome your feedback.
