The inspiration for my first published book, Being Bliss, was a terminal diagnosis. What I realized when facing the distinct possibility that I was living my last few months was that I couldn't leave this world without sharing with as many others as possible the wisdom that had given me a chance to love life for whatever time I had.
I had a very turbulent childhood and attempted suicide the first time when I was only 9 years old. I was able to turn that around and create a life of genuine happiness and fulfillment despite the ups and downs of life, which are inescapable. How I did that is the story of Being Bliss. It is an approach I believe anyone can take to claiming the natural joy that is their birthright.
It turns out I wasn't dying, at least not then, but I am forever grateful for the motivation a deadline can provide. I have received incredibly positive feedback about the book, and know it has truly transformed lives and given solace where it was needed. As Dyer says, may we not die with our music still in us yet unshared with the world.
