War and revolution in China shaped my early life up to age 18. Italy was an improvement because there was no war but I earned a terrible living for the five years I lived there. San Francisco after that was heaven. Then Brazil, where I found myself a corporate wife. Being hungry in China and Italy was useful only as grist for my books and short stories.
Birth Place: Shanghai, China
Accomplishments: Eight first-place awards for a essays and short stories and several honors. I was a singer in Brazil in the Little Theatre. No money, but fun.
10/07 I will receive the Jack London Award from the CWC (Calif.Writers Club) for my work as chair of the 5th grade writing contest.

Additional information
|
| My talk/signing of The Snake Woman of Ipanema having been a big draw on March 7, Barnes & Noble in Berkeley, CA invited me back to present The Year of the Rat on October 10, 7:30 pm. I also have a gig on July 6 in Oakland where the cultural events organizer will intersperse famous authors with unknowns like me. I have been allotted five minutes, but that just means I must concentrate on Snake Woman and Year of the Rat, without 55 minutes more of anecdotes. Other bookings in the Bay Area and elsewhere will follow. AOL will feature me on a live chat soon. My novel Journey from Shanghai will be out late this year.
Newest book will be a little one about cats, titled "Meow's Way." I may post it here soon before publication.
