While I was in the Navy, I came down with a slight medical problem (the dreaded gallstone!). Naturally, I was at sea at the time. The ship pulled in for me and I was sent to the hospital where they removed the culprit. Having a month to recover, I started my first book. That was in 1990. I got into chapter 4 on my Commodore 64 computer by the end of my recovery time and put it away in favor of finishing my career in 2001.
Seven more years went by. I had rewritten the first chapters a few times, converting the chapters over to Word Perfect and then finally to MS Word. Then I got serious about finishing, as I wanted something to pass down to my kids and grandkids. Two years later and a lifetime of change, I finished the book. The basic idea was the same but life experiences changed the direction it took. Technology advanced as well, so I could research real historical facts to mix in with my characters, all from my computer. To make things even more special to me, my two sons were responsible for the original cover picture. Unfortunately, I picked the wrong publisher and had to buy back the rights to my story. To buy back the cover was cost restrictive. I self published it and made it available on Amazon at a much greatly reduced price and also published in Kindle, as the age of electronic data is here.
