I'm the author of the children's Christian book, Garden of Eden. My husband and I are Christians and have attended Maywood Evangelical Free Church in Rockford, IL for the past 18 years. We have two young children, Andrew and Shelby.
About three years ago, my son Andrew loved to read the Magic Tree House books. After reading one of the books with Andrew, I realized the reason children love these stories so much is because they are taken to a magical place where they can experience the adventures firsthand.
This gave me the idea to write a book based on a biblical story in which the main characters could actually go back in time to experience what it would be like to have lived at that time.
Since the Garden of Eden takes place at the earliest recorded time in earth's history, it contains a lot of imagination, yet my goal was to stick as close to scripture as possible.
My belief is that when children are told about the Bible they hear, "Stories of the Bible". This may make the Bible seem like it's not real to them. In our secular schools children learn about evolutionary theories, scientific data, and historical facts.
Although my books are considered "fiction", my goal is to tie known "scientific" and "historical" facts to the Bible stories, so children can relate the Bible to present day knowledge about ancient civilizations. Hopefully, this will give children a better sense of factuality in regard to the Bible stories. My goal is to encourage children to read the Bible, and help them accept its unfailing truth.
