Ms. Mc has had a varied career in education as an ESL teacher, a librarian(30 years) an advisor at Montgomery College, and an author of children's books. Her love of travel has taken her to Spain, where she taught English to Spaniards, and wrote a book about a knight who loved words, and to Italy, Germany, Switzerland and France, where she visited the Gardens of Versailles and learned about how Ima Hogg planned her own Bayou Bend gardens in their likeness. Her travels in the U.S. have included author visits much closer to home where she has shared her love of reading and writing with schools throughout Texas, New Mexico and Virginia.
Ms. Mc as her students called her began her writing career when she was in college then decided that she wanted to get more practice writing, decided to meet some famous authors, and pursue an MFA in Writing for Children, so she enrolled in the program at Vermont College in Montpelier, Vt . Since her graduation from the program she has published two books about Ima Hogg of Texas, along with a musical based on her first book. Her interest in Ima Hogg began when her family moved from Louisiana to Texas when she was 14 and began to visit the country home of Miss Ima, which was located in West Columbia, Tx. only a few short miles from her home.
Her ultimate goal is to have one of her books appear on the Texas Bluebonnet Reading list one day.
Ms. Mc loves doing school vists all over Texas and beyond and in 2009 even ventured to Siguenza, Spain where she did author visits to the local elementary schools there. She plans to keep on writing and traveling. Her next book which is still at her publisher is about a Cinco de Mayo celebration gone awry. The most exciting thing about this book is that her daughter, a bilingual teacher in Conroe, Tx is the co-author, so eventually she will have a travel companion when she goes on author visits and each story will be told in Spanish and English. Ole!
