I wanted to be a rock star when I was a kid. I was good on the guitar at an early age and used that guitar-chord knowledge to teach myself piano (after a couple years of lessons).
At age 17 I wrote my first book on how to learn all the basic major and minor chords and their inversions in 45 days. It was amateurishly written but there was magic in the discovery of a method that could teach one to play so well so fast. This simple book has been the staple of my methodologies.
Self-direction in music is hard to muster if you don't know where to look for the right information. Over the next 30 years the method was taught to hundreds of people and refined along the way.
I’m a musician, writer, teacher, musicologist and archivist of old sheet music and 45-rpm records. I have strong ties to public domain music and (in addition to my piano works) republish exceptional songs that were lost along the way.
