A long time ago, I was a stand-up comedian. Deciding that failure to earn a living wasn't all that funny, I went into advertising, and then into television writing. For 16 years, I was the primary writer for the "Barney & Friends" franchise - the happy, dancing, purple dinosaur who wants everyone to have good manners. I wrote television, books, live concerts, a feature film, and more for my dinosaur friend...and was humbled and privileged to have a positive effect on so many young lives.
While I continue to write material for children, that's never been the only audience I wanted to speak to. And now I'm focusing more on longer works for adults - featuring very adult material. Humor is my favorite tool, but in many ways I'm still trying to make the same important moral arguments that are characterized in my other works. Because I can't honestly imagine anything more important to write about in these troubling times.
I've certainly been influenced by great satirists like Chuck Palahniuk (Fight Club), Kurt Vonnegut, Anthony Burgess (A Clockwork Orange), and even Walt Kelly (Pogo).
