Alice Rene has a Master's degree in Social Welfare and has worked as a medical caseworker teaching the social and emotional aspects of patient care to hospital workers. She also pakaged tours to exotic foreign destinations and escorted groups on her trips. She is married and has raised three children before decidiing to write her memoir.
This decision came after her grandson chose the Holocaust as the subject for a high school paper and interviewed her as an expert on the subject. She realized that her family did not really know all the aspects of her experience since she did not wish them to feel as victims for being Jewish. She studied writing with several well established teachers before undertaking the work. As she wrote it, she belonged to a writing group which gave her an incite as to how the book would be received. Encouraged by them she relized that her story would be interesting to many others. Since its publication, it has received many awards for which she is greatly gratified.
