As a teenager, somewhat shy and arkward around people, she found that she could best express her feelings and opinions with the written word. She was encouraged to write by a former English teacher because of her love for poetry. From poetry she moved on to short stories and even some of her life's experiences and lessons. She had a growing interest in human interest stories and writing to motivate and inspire others. Her first work was published when she was in college writing for the Communitarian Newspaper and the article caught the attention of a well known news reporter who came to the college campus to interview her. It seems that at the time, he had been trying to get an interview with the very inmate that she had successfully interviewed and got to write his story. This was great moment in her life and changed her direction with regard to writing. So she would continue to write and over the years, have to her credit 4 books, (one self published), several stage plays that have been played such theatre houses as the Mandel, in Philadelphia, PA, the Walt Whitman Center for the Arts, in Camden, NJ, The Ella Fitzgerald Center for the Performing Arts, in her hometown of Princess Anne, MD, The Grand Opera House, in Wilmington, DE, The Covered Bridge Theatres and countless High Schools and Colleges. She has been most inspired by the works of Emily Dickinson, Langston Hughes, Paul Laurence Dunbar, Henry David Thoreau, Maya Angelou, and John Donne.
