Background Information

As a youngster I was inspired by Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain). I wanted to be like his beloved characters Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. Well, after realizing that would never be--I can't swim and don't know how to build a raft--I wanted to become like Twain and write stories. So, at the age of 17, in 1969, I found a short pencil and a wrinkled sheet of paper and wrote my first short--real short--story called "Remembering Mars Hill". In later years I turned it into a novel, although not yet published. I'm currently at work on another nerve-stiffener. I am the father of two, Shawn Rogers of Ankeny, Iowa, and Amanda Hoy of Oskaloosa, Iowa. "Be good and you will be lonely"--Mark Twain

My novel "Remembering Mars Hill" was accepted by a publisher on June 9th, 2006. It's due out in February, 2007.

Additional Information

Stories I've written and are collecting dust: "Tom Boo," "Hamadryad," "From Sara Whitaker," Fatal Perfection," "The Hayesville Ghosts," and "Bad Bonnie Badd." "Bad Bonnie Badd" was supposed to have been published last year (2005) but wasn't due to Breech of contract on my part. This came as a result of some words that weren't supposed to be written. I have no intention of omitting these words. If I can't tell the whole story the way I see it, then there's no point in writing it. I do not censor myself. This is America. I may write part time, but I am not a part time writer.
