Before starting his career as an author, Jackson traveled around the world advising, developing and implemennting public security projects. His former seventeen-year career has given him a unique understanding on the subject of international security, population control and counter-terrorism.
Having decided to leave the "real" world behind, Jackson is now an author of modern adventure fiction where he is admittedly, more at ease running character scenarios through his head rather than the public threat mitigation scenarios of his past life. He decided to write his current trilogy with a fantasy element due to his fascination with the genre. He admits that as an adult, he is increasingly disappointed with most fantasy works that are heavily influenced by Hollywood and large publishing companies to directly appeal to children, teenagers, and the general public.
By writing specifically for the adult reader, it allows Jackson to include elements of their sexuality. The characters have greater dimension which allows the reader to have a deeper more modern understanding of the character and their motivations . He decided to write this trilogy with a gay protagonist as this is in sharp contrast to the traditional adventure hero. Jackson believes that if you are going to write today, you have to be different and get away from predictable plots and formula writing. Jackson writes his novels in a style he calls "roller coaster writing". His stories move fast and take many hard twists and turns as they rapidly unfold and develop.
Jackson was educated in the United States by the Catholic Jesuits in high school and college. This is where he developed his fascination with the studies of comparative religions. His work integrates both the theistic and athesistic view of religion as well as the historical significance the Vatican has played in shaping modern religion and humanity.
Mix all this together with his experiences as a world traveler, his knowledge of food and wind and his dry sense of humor and you can begin to imagine how he develops his unique novels.
