I have been writing all of my life, but it was always poetry or non-fiction before. I started my elementary school's first newspaper, and was its reporter, editor, publisher, and distributor. I was a co-editor and regular contributor to an underground, hippie newspaper in college, called The Post-Amerikan. And, in law school I was the Co-Editor-In-Chief for my law school's newspaper, The Decisive Utterance. Most recently I was the Managing Editor of Thrive Magazine.
I am a master storyteller. That's what lawyers do best! So, I always knew I could write a novel. My first novel is also a work of advocacy fiction, bringing attention to a real environmental crime, which took place in Central Honduras, as well as to the beauty of that country, the dire poverty, and the work being done to help the people there be able to support themselves and their families.
Birth Place: Mattoon, IL United States
Accomplishments: I won the Americanism Essay Award Contest in Junior High. How did I get from there to The Post-Amerikan (see above) and getting arrested for an act of civil disobedience at a nuclear power plant? Hmmm.

Additional information
|
| I have recently joined the Board of Directors this month of Storycatchers Theatre in Chicago. This organization works with incarcerated and at-risk youth to help them tell their stories by writing a musical each year, which they perform for the general public. We have terrific partners, such as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Columbia College.
I am also participating in a class called, "Hope for Artists", led by an old friend from college, Linda Sylvester. The class explores art as healing. |
