I have always enjoyed writing. I wrote all throughout school...just loved those writing assignments everyone else hated *smile* I think I have always had creative juices flowing in one form or another, but never actually thought about pursuing writing as a career. I thought my destiny would be in music. But after going as far as I wanted to go with my musical career, I quietly left the business and joined the 9-5 club. I found a great job working in Superior Court. I came across some incredible cases and started keeping notes on possible ones to use in a novel...if I ever wrote one. I threw some of the ideas out to the production staff at some law related t.v. programs, but nothing ever took.
Although I loved my job, it wasn't allowing me the creative outlet I needed. My husband suggested I write about my experiences in my band. Now, I had always heard that you should write about what you know...well, music I knew. So I wrote about my experiences of being the only female in an all male rock and roll band. I felt certain that it was going to be the next best seller!
Boy, was I wrong! It had no flow...was disjointed...it was junk. Where had I gone wrong?? What I hadn't realized at the time was when you write, you should have passion about the subject matter. I certainly knew music and the music industry, but my passion about it had long since faded. I was jaded and it showed in my writing. So I pondered on what I should do next.
Over the years, I had been working on my family genealogy. On a fluke, I discovered ties into royalty. This so fascinated me that I began collecting bios and histories and old family legends. Now this...I was passionate about! I took some of the stories I collected and began building my novels around them. Storm of Desire is one of those stories. I took the thread of an old family legend of fighting between the MacLeod & the Campbell clans and built from there. With Restless Surrender, I placed a fictional character in the household of my ancestors, William, Duke of Normandy & King of England and his wife, Maud. With Legend in Time, through my heroine we travel back to meet some of the people that possibly could be our ancestors.
