"Speechlessly, I wonder how I found the courage to cut out my tongue and speak to the world."

Background Information

I've studied Literature at Buffalo State College, where I received both my B.A. and M.A. My Master's thesis was on Henry Miller and how he found his own brand of wisdom through the appetites in his works. Miller has been one of my major influences. His absolute love of writing has certainly inspired me. It may be strange that I look up to Miller, for he claimed he hated poetry, and most of my writing to date has been poetry. Miller was a poet in his own way, some of his prose has even been converted into stanzas by someone. Walt Whitman has definitely been an influence. What American poet could possibly not give some kind of nod to Whitman? Well, I'm sure there are some . . . To be honest, I really don't know how to define my poetry. It tends to be very surreal at times, and the surrrealists from Breton down certainly have something to do with that. I'm not too comfortable with labels anyway, but I suppose if one would have to put a label on my work, one could easily call it "poetry for the lightened and darkened soul."
