Accomplishments

Dyson's book, Home on the Moon, won the 2004 American Institute of Physics Science Writing Award in the children's category. This award consists of a $3,000 prize, an inscribed Windsor chair, and a certificate. Her first book, Space Station Science (Scholastic, 1999/Windsor 2004), won the Golden Kite Award for best nonfiction children's book of 1999. The National Science Teachers Association/Children's Book Council named it an Outstanding Trade Book for 2000, and it made Booklist's Top Ten list of youth science books. An updated second edition is now available in paperback. Dyson is also the author of Homework Help on the Internet (Scholastic, 2000) and The Space Explorers Guide to Stars & Galaxies (Scholastic's Space University series, 2004), and Space and Astronomy: Decade by Decade (2007). Science in Kids' Books
The Moon does not have a dark side, and there is gravity in space! A former NASA flight controller and children's author reviews children's space & science fiction books for accuracy.

4Frontiers Authors
What would it be like to live on Mars? Find out in The Callahan Kids: Tales of Life on Mars, an anthology for middle-school readers created by science fiction writers and a team of engineers at 4Frontiers Corporation. The stories take place at Bradbury Base, a realistic Mars settlement that is full of surprises for the first kids growing up there. The nine original tales in the book are beautifully illustrated by Michael Carroll whose artwork has flown in space. Contributors include Hugo-winning author Ben Bova, young adult authors Jim Denney and Rebecca Rowe, artist Phil Smith, former NASA flight controller Marianne Dyson, space scientist Brian Enke, and aerospace engineer Tom Hill. Proceeds will support educational projects to promote the human settlement of the space frontier (by the kids who read this book!).

Space Activities
Make a space drink, build scale models of the planets, a gravity detector, or play a "solar system" live game.
