I've written the country's most highly-acclaimed book on dog health and safety available today. If you like serious education mixed with wild color photos and fun, I think you'll really like my book, Scared Poopless.
Worried about how to feed your dog or cat after the pet food recall? I've done a series of recorded seminars with one of the top pet food experts in the country. Learn more about
I can't wait to tell you about my book: Scared Poopless: The Straight Scoop on Dog Care. It's the Winner of the Ben Franklin Award for the Best Health Book in the country, Winner of the USABookNews Award for the Best Health Book and finalist for the Dog Writers Association Best Care and Health Book. It is recommended by the Animal Protection Institute ,the Journal of the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association, actress/activist Betty White and even the dog superstar Benji!
Scared Poopless, my fourth book, was inspired by the life-threatening illness of dog Jiggy. (That's Jiggy above left, with me and my "co-author," Chiclet.)
As I desperately researched the cause and possible cures for Jiggy's disease, I came to a shocking conclusion that most of what I knew about dog care I'd learned from people trying to sell me something!
Much of this information was not only wrong, but often harmful. I had endangered Jiggy's life, though I'd had the best of intentions. Incensed by the influence of commercial interests on dog care, I set out to expose how so many of us are inadvertently harming our dogs even as we are trying to help them--and we're paying dearly for the privilege. Because I love animals, and because I want my readers to know that I'm in this only to help dogs, rather than to make money, I DONATE ALL MY AUTHOR ROYALTIES TO ANIMAL CAUSES.
Want to see our YouTube video? It's the story of how my "co-author" Chiclet gave up her life as a party dog to become an author and healer. Enjoy!

I already told you about my awards. I didn't tell you that Dr. Jean Hofve, then The Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association, called Scared Poopless "a wonderful book," adding that she had "rarely been so impressed by any publication." She recommends it to all dog guardians and suggests that veterinarians buy it by the case for their new clients. The most exciting thing is: Veterinarians are actually doing it!
Animal Wellness Magazine has endorsed it and the Animal Protection Institute has added it to their "Recommended Reading" list.
Some years ago I wrote Outclassing the Competition, a book to help people moving up in the world. St. Martin's Press published it and I promoted it with a national book tour.
My current book, Scared Poopless: The Straight Scoop on Dog Care, includes my two years of research and interviews with eighteen innovative veterinarians and is packed with wild color photos. Readers say that the photos alone are worth the price of admission!
Narrated by an opinionated four-pound dog with a wicked sense of humor, Scared Poopless has been called "a heavy book dressed lightly." It is a rare combination: a complete resource for caring for your dog, plus it's a ton of fun!
