"The hole in my soul was patched, when Jesus accepted me as His child." I stopped at the crossroads befuddled and confused I didn't know which road to take until God offered me a ride.

Background Information

Barbara Kasey Smith was born in a coal mining town in West Virginia. Her father was a coal miner. There were seven children in her family and life definitely wasn't an easy one in the coal camp community. I'm sure, you've probably heard the country song about a coal miner owning his soul to the Company Store; well, this is the truth, any miner in our town certainly owed his soul to the company store. They could never get ahead because everything they bought had to be bought from the Company Store and this took all of their salaries. Life in the town was lean and a struggle. No one had extras or luxuries.

Barbara's fantastic imagination and ability to tell her siblings stories at night, kept her and them full of dreams, wishes for better days to come, kept them happy and waiting for another story each night. She told her serial stories and maybe a story would go on for a month or two. Many nights she would whisper the story until she would be hoarse.

Barbara lived in the state until she was old enough to go to work on her own. She left the coal mining town for the Washington, D.C. area, where she went to work for the Federal Government. Barbara worked for thirty-two years in the government before retiring.

She loves to write, to travel, football games, antique hunting, singing, and various other arts and crafts. She is a Christian and her aim is to write religious poetry, religious short stories and books, in hope it will bring a sense of peace and comfort to those who read her writings. She loves to write, using them as examples, to touch the heart of a young person who is going through a difficult situation. Barbara hope that these writings will in some way allow teenagers and youngsters to know there are people to turn to in case there is a dilemma in their lives.

Barbara's first love is writing religious poetry, free verse and books. She has had three books published: (1) No Goodbyes, (2) A Stranger's Visit, (3) Whispers of Faith. All of her books are available from Barnes and Nobel, Amazon.Com, or any book store will order the book if you ask them to place an order for the book.

Barbara has been published in several poetry magazines, poetry books, poetry Internet sites, Helium.Com, Triond.Com, and other Internet Sites. An article from Helium.Com will be published in a new magazine in April 2010. Her works also appear on DivineCaroline.Com, Faithwriters.Com, PoetryPoem.Com/Smith, etc.
