My name Letitia means joy in Latin, and I've been growing into my name--in spurts.

Background Information

Born in Boston, raised in Virginia, a long-time Georgia resident, I feel connected to the New England coast, where I spent my girlhood summers, and to this plot of land in Atlanta nestled between a big, busy city and a tree-banked river. Educated in girls' schools, I grew up reading authors mostly English or dead and accidentally memorized a lot of poetry. I'm amazed to discover that my first full-length play (to be produced summer 2008 by Essential Theatre in Atlanta) was on the same topic as my first poem written when I was about 8--Adam and Eve. My first novel was written when I was about 10 and was about an alcoholic who lived in a boat which he rowed from one town or wharf to another. I acted out the role sitting on a small rug and sliding it around the hardwood floor of my bedroom, tying up at my bedposts, clambering ashore, and taking frequent swigs from a bottle of talcum powder. The seeds of all my writing were sown at that time.

4 nonfiction books published on which my name is on cover as collaborator, 3 others with no by line.

The Last Good Deed won the 2005 Georgia Theatre Conference One-Act Play Award, and a later version was produced at Theatre Decatur in the spring of 2007.

West of Eden, my first full-length play, won the 2008 Essential Theatre Playwriting Award and will be produced by Essential this summer in Atlanta.
