I have been a reader of fictional novels for some number of years now. However, it is rare that I find a book that truly keeps my interest ... about one in twenty. I complained about it so much that a friend said I should write my own. So I did.
There are some guiding principles behind my book and there will be in future novels as well. First, I like a chapter in the beginning that is action oriented. I really hate to start a new book, especially if the beginning is a long description of characters. With an action oriented beginning, the main character(s)can be introduced without the tedium of that long and drawn description . In addition, by reading the first chapter, people will be able to tell if they like my writing.
Next there will be double spacing between paragraphs. In my opinion, that makes it easier on the eyes. Almost everyone that has opened my book has said that it was great because the print was large. This is not the case as the print is the same as most books. It simply appears larger because of the spacing. Another principle is the use of dialogue. I prefer dialogue over text because, at least to me, it makes it an easier read and I feel that people will be better able to understand the characters. In my opinion, dialogue is what separates non-fiction from fiction. Beyond this, my books will always have a lot of action from beginning to end. Finally, I like a twist at the end of a book to make me think about the book after I am done.
Readers will decide if they agree with my guiding principles.
