Put aside that "Great American Novel" and write about what's in your heart.

To this day I believe there is a general misunderstanding about men who love men. The flavors they come in are endless, but rest assured the majority are everyday, average guys. They are the men you never hear about or see on TV. They are the men who are quiet about their inner challenges; cousins, brothers, neighbors, associates, husbands. They are the men I write about. After twenty years, when I finally wrote a story I genuinely cared about, my wife said, "There are people who will be interested in reading this book." Maybe you are one of them.

Though the main characters in my novels are gay or bisexual men, that doesn't exclude women from reading them. These aren't tales that were written exclusively for gay men, rather they are human stories with human emotions, challenges, successes and failures. Women tell me that they forget the characters are gay by the second chapter, at which time they are drawn into the story.
