I have been writing professionally on-and-off for about ten years but writing my entire life for pleasure. I've written articles in newspapers and magazines–local. I completed my first novel at 22. For the past two years, I've focused on writing novels and also my own marketing tools for MY SISTER’S WEDDING (press releases, web site content, sell sheet, query letters). Additionally, I've worked as a freelance web editor for the past year and have edited many manuscripts, some of which have gone on to self-publishing or been picked up by agents.
In my “former” life, I taught high school English for 6 years. This experience was fertile ground for my writing and gave me lots of interesting stories to incorporate into my Maddie books. When writing my novels, I often found myself, during the editing stages, calling upon my inner educator to tell me if the book would “sell” to educators and parents. This helped me to keep the language and content riding that fine line of inappropriate.
Currently, I am simultaneously writing, consulting, and teaching. I am revising four more Maddie books and working on a compellation of short stories and essays for adults and teens. I teach adults creative writing and also run writing workshops (Releasing The Writer Within ?) all over the state of RI and teach at Stonehill College. I’m a consultant to other wanna-be published authors and editor for other writer’s manuscripts. I also continue to work with kids at Rhode Island Tutorial & Educational Services, running workshops and tutoring students privately in writing. This career change is a direct result of self-publishing my book.
