"Song writing is about getting the demon out of me."

Background Information

"Song writing is about getting the demon out of me. It's like being possessed. You try to go to sleep, but the song won't let you. So you have to get up and make it into something, and then you're allowed to sleep. It's always in the middle of the night, or you're half-awake or tired, when your critical faculties are switched off. So letting go is what the whole game is. Every time you try to put your finger on it, it slips away. You turn on the lights and the cockroaches run away. You can never grasp them."
- John Lennon

I'm only 16 but have lived in several states and been to several countries. I've moved more than some due to my father's job. My life (and everyone else's I know of) is full of positive and negative experiences. These experiences inspire poems and songs. Something I say a lot is "life is better with background music". Sometimes I think of my life like a movie, and movies…are better with music (fact). Some of my work here I consider background music for the movie of my life. It’s the theme of my life. My main view on life is it’s hard, but it’s sweet. I’ve written during highs and lows of my life, and you’ll see some of the work here from extreme lows in this journey. In some of my writing I may sound slightly depressed, but I wound like to assure everyone I am not:)

Although many people have been quoted to having said similar things to "I write to find out what I'm thinking about," I'll give Edward Albee the credit this time. This is so true for me. It's funny: when I read my poems, I don't normally think of them as my own work. I get so caught up in reading them, I forget I wrote them. I've often caught myself lost in my own poem thinking something like, “That's exactly how I feel.” When I write it's like someone wanders around in my head and pulls out feelings and words. I've actually started crying while writing a song or poem before and not really been sure why. I guess the feelings writing pulls out of me are just so strong, I have to do something.

Most of my work you'll see here are Shakespearean sonnets. I was introduced to these my freshman year of high school, and happened to fall in love with them. They provide structure, while still allowing me freedom to write what I wish. To quickly fill in anyone curious: Shakespearean sonnets have 14 lines, and their rhyming scheme follows an “a,b,a,b,c,d,c,d,e,f,e,f,g,g” pattern (where line “a” rhymes with line “a”, line “b” rhymes with line “b”, etc.). They also have 10 syllables per line, using iambic pentameter, where every other syllable is stressed, starting with an unstressed syllable. This all sounds a lot more confusing than it is, but either way, feel free to simply read them as normal poetry, completely ignoring the bogus rules:)

A few years ago I began an extreme obsession over actor Kiefer Sutherland. You can probably pick out which poems are about him, and I also made some pictures of him in Photoshop, which you can view on Photobucket by using the link I posted. It was big, it was strong, it was real, and, although I kinda wish it were, it's not over.

Some of my writing may make sense to you, but I’m guessing much of it won’t (especially for the majority of my readers, who don’t know me). You may still be able to enjoy it, but feel free to contact me asking what I’m talking about, for a more in-depth explanation of my writing, to leave a comment, or to simply say/ask anything at all. I should tell you right now, however, that I may not go extremely in-depth on certain sensitive subjects about my life, but I won’t be offended in the least, no matter what you’re question. So, once again, feel free to contact me.

Quotes are also a large part of me. Here are some of my favorites (NOTE: not all of the following quotes have had a significant and profound affect/meaning on/to my life):
