My name is Michael Ellis. Early writing influences include Langson Hughes, Robert Frost and Shakespeare. I am an award winning poet and fiction Novelist. Whats unique about me is that I can rhyme in Prose. I have created a style of writing called "Prosetry." Currently I am completing a novel titled Dear Oprah which is a 200 page rhyming novel about the famous talk show and a young girl named Correne who is addicted to it. Follow this site as I will post excerpts until it is published in August 2007. I am also versed in children's literature, Essay and Journalism. The Highlight of my writing career came ten years ago when Pulitzer prize winning writer gwendolyn Brooks wrote me three times and gave me the go ahead to pursue writing.

Accomplishments

|
Dear Oprah is my greatest achievement, a 250 page novel that rhymes from start to finish. At the Hurston Wright ceremony my poetry was commissioned by Rita Golden as a legitimate novel.
I have so many heroes who have nurtured me including Robin Burcell (Avon), Angela Kinamore (I still have the letter you sent) and Robert Lee of Jet magazine taking that minute to write me when I was so sure. Lastly Crystal Thomas (one of my biggest hero's) Thanks for being there and for sharing my poem (Happy Mama's day) with Dionne Warwick and others.
