I've always been interested in the power of words and how they can impact each of us in a different way. They can take us to unknown heights where we become heady; OR send us to the pits of Hell's brink. They can slice or endorse us. I really enjoy writing for myself and then for others; I can't seem to stop putting words to paper or spend some sleepness nights because of writing themes running loose in my over-active head.
I have a Master's Degree in Counseling, a member of the International Society of Poets and my poems have appeared in ten anthologies. My first published book of poetry--Experience, Strength and Hope--can be found at Borders, Barnes and Noble, Amazon.com, authorHouse.com and here. All 103 poems average about 16 cents each--a great bargain!!! Dr. Maya Angelou has been a major influence on my writing and some of my poems reflect her style. I received an award from the International Society of Poets at their July Convention this last July. This book of poems was developed and influenced by the 12-step program of AA. I owe them my life and the new prospects of a bright future without alcohol. I've been sober 5+ years--thus the title of my book: Experience, Strength and Hope.
From Christianity to Sin and Back Again is a trilogy of my life wherein I try to make it clear that there are other alternatives to life than living in the bottle or shooting up the veins or even snorting some coke. Hopefully, my experiences that I share can be used by others as a guidepost to find that better way of living without drugs as a crutch to life.
Now that I'm retired, I have time on my hands and some days are filled completely with writing poetry. I lived in Saint Louis, but returned to my roots in Ironton (It's on the map!!!) after being gone sixty years! I love the peace and quiet of a small town although with 1,442 people, everyone knows who you are, where you live and what you do in your private time. The phone lines are always buzzing with the activities of someone else!! I just got a four-legged companion that I named Mandi, dark as night with one white spot and NO tail!! She's my current joy and pleasure.
I'm interested in all types of music: classical, country, alternative, trance, dance, salsa. My tastes in artists run the gamut as well: Michael Buble, Barry Manilow, Frank Sinata, Angelina Jolie-Pitt, Madonna, Thomas Jane, Tom Hanks, Orson Welles and many more. When not writing poetry, my novel, or feeding the birds, I will often read something by Stephen Cannell, John Grisham or even Ian Fleming for the "original" James Bond.

Accomplishments: Member of the International Society of Poets (ISOP), published in ten anthologies and received the "Outstanding Achievement in Poetry" award in 2006 from the ISOP. The poem read at the convention has been recorded on a CD as well. I've just been invited to select a poem that will appear in the "Who's Who In Poetry" anthology for 2006. And, I received my FIRST electronic rejection of a poem that did not follow all the "proper" rules of poetry, i.e., rhyme, meter, etc. I no longer send poems to Poetry.com.....is there any wonder why?
