I was raised in Brooklyn housing projects, in the Crenshaw section of Los
Angeles and in the Philly’s north side. I chose to gang bang and deal drugs.
My playgrounds were neighborhoods that fell victim to crime, drugs and
poverty.
I avoided long stints of incarceration only by the grace of God because
Lord knows; I deserved a cell or two in my day. My demons were deeper
then jails and the madness of the streets would finally overtake me. My
nickname was “Dummy“ and I acted accordingly.
Finally, I surrendered and no longer did I wish to be a part of the problem. I had a calling to help people and I chose to go to school for social work. I received my Bachelor of Social Work from Adelphi University.
My give-back to the community started by helping individuals through poverty, AIDS, drug addiction, abuse, violence, and human neglect.
These stories of pain, love and human triumph echo in my head and the only release for me is to pass them on to you.
