The word is out--Connie Meyer's book "Starting From Scratch" is an anthology of true love stories that celebrate a total of 770 years of marriage. Connie also writes a regular column for "Today's Woman" magazine

Background Information

I have had articles and poetry published in numerous publications such as “Louisville Parent Magazine,” “Louisville Magazine,” “The Christian Science Monitor,” “The Courier Journal,” “Leo,” “Scene Magazine,” “Living With Children,” “Home Life,” “Living With Preschoolers,” “Mature Living,” “Look and Listen Magazine,” “Hospice of Louisville Newsletter,” “USTA Supplement to Tennis Magazine,” “Kentucky Tennis,” “Woman’s Day,” “Good Housekeeping,” and “Today’s Woman Magazine.” I have had poetry published in an anthology by Blue Mountain Arts called “I Love You, Mom.” I also participated in a writing project by local Kentucky authors through Metro United Way. Our work was published in an anthology called “Words From The Heart,” edited by Dianne Aprile. My first book “Starting From Scratch” was released in February, 2005 by Vintage Romance Publishing LLC. It is an anthology of true love stories. All of the stories take place before 1969, and all of the couples are from Kentucky representing a combined 770 years of marriage. A feature story about my book appeared in the Courier Journal on February 13 written by Katya Cengel. I appeared on Wave Weekend Sunrise on February 13 to talk about “Starting From Scratch.” I returned on February 14 for the early sunrise show. At 10:00 my book was featured again on Wave 3 Listens with Carrie and Kevin Harned. One of the couples from the book appeared with me on the show. In May of 2005 I was interviewed on one of Louisville’s most popular radio stations, WDJX, 99.7. Peter B. and Kelly K. touted “Starting From Scratch” as the ideal gift for mother’s day. I am a regular writer for “Today’s Woman Magazine” in Louisville. Each month I write a column called “Later Living” that features women who have started a second career later in life. I also write other features for the magazine. The magazine always adds information about where to buy my book along with my by-line. I am a local commentator for NPR in Louisville, WFPL at 89.3 FM. I had 25 commentaries air for 2006. My bio can be found on The bio is another opportunity to promote my book, “Starting From Scratch.” I also have a website through the Writer Gazette that can be found at I was invited by “The Jazz Factory” to do a reading of a selection of my NPR commentaries in January, 2006 and again in December for their monthly segment called “Jazz & The Spoken Word.” My book, “Starting From Scratch” was featured at The Jazz Factory. Since “Starting From Scratch” was first released in February, 2005, the reviews have been excellent. Coffee Time Romance gave “Starting From Scratch" four out of five stars. The review can be read at Blue Ribbon Reviews at gave “Starting From Scratch 4.5 ribbons out of 5. Locally “Starting From Scratch” has been carried by Barnes & Nobles on Hurstbourne Lane. Several local family owned bookstores have carried “Starting From Scratch” with success, as well as our local Borders Bookstores in Louisville. My book is carried by the Louisville Public Library as well as the University of Louisville Library. Connie Meyer

Additional Information

For 2007 I have a monthly column in "Today's Woman" Magazine where I share entries from a personal journal written ten years ago when I was the sole caregiver for my terminally ill parents. They died within six months of each other. I am working on a book based on this journal with the hope that it might help others in similar circumstances.
