As a result of these moves Sylvia went to twelve different schools over the years. To compensate for losing friends along the way, she turned to books and became an avid reader with a great love for books and art.

A monthly newsletter called. "Professor Owls Book Corner," which gives book news, safe websites and other activities to help children love to read. This newsletter is now for the children with special needs, chronic illness and learning challenges. Every month Variety Village sends the bio and picture of one of their hero's (these children have achieved their goals in sports in spite of their illness or disability.
