Professor Emeritus of History, University of Illinois at Springfield, who finds writing to be good therapy, better than religion and cheaper than psychiatry.

Background Information

I grew up in an itinerant working family in the Pacific Northwest. My father, an agnostic socialist, devoted his energy to organizing railroad workers. After serving in the U.S. Army in World War II, first as a private in infantry training and subseqently as a sudent and faculty member of the U..S. Counterintelligence Corps School at Holabird Signal Depot in Baltimore, Maryland, I earned an Ed.D. at Columbia University thanks to the G.I. Bill. After teaching in three major universities I was a founding faculty member of an experimental public affairs school, Sangamon State University (now a part of the University of Illinois where I worked with the late Senator Paul Simon. Now retired I hope to use historical fiction to convince the public that violence is not power and that humility in politics is an attribute of strength not weakness.

Birth Place
St. John, WA USA

Earned an Ed.D. degree, retired as a tenured full professor in a major university and am completing my 60th year of marriage that my wife calles 60 years of holy deadlock. I was the publisher/editor of an academic journal "Community College Frontiers" (1976-1982 sponsored by Sangamon State University (now the University of Illinois at Springfield).

Additional Information

I have just self-published (authorHouse) a novel entitled The Big Lie, set in Paris of the 1950s. At present I am completing the manuscript of an historical novel "THE CIRCLE BROKEN, A STORY OF LOVE, DEATH AND DISCOVERY" set in 17th century Quebec (La Nouvelle France) and relating the romance of a Wendat girl and a young Frenchman who is an indentured apprentice of the explorer Robert Cavelier de La Salle.
