When I was 16 years old, I was motivated to learn a Spanish poem, entitled Tu eres huracan
(You are a huricane). Well to make a long story short, With much practice and self-dtermination, I was encouraged by my former Spanish teacher, Ms. Estell to enter this poem in a contest against predominately Latinos in my junior year at Wendell Phillips High School, and I was thrilled to have won first place, which later paved the way for me to major in Spanish education at Illinois State Univ. in 1975. As a result of my success with this poem, I later became a Bilingual Spanish-Speaking teacher, who has been presently teaching the Spanish language for over 25 years. El espanol es mi primer amor.(Spanish is my first love).
