Van Gogh's Peasant
by Steven Ulmen

I refer to Vincent Van Gogh's nameless, faceless image simply as "Van Gogh's Peasant." Like a ghostly specter he centers Van Gogh's canvas, locked forever in the endless ..

Background Information

I have a Nutrition background being a Registered Dietiitian with an advanced Nutrtion Degree, so this has a big influence in my life and what I write. I also like writing about a variety of topics aside from food. I usually look at things from a different angle than the norm and I keep on discovering that life is about a lot of exploring, screwing up, but doing things your way. Forget about the road less travelled. I prefer to take my own road most of the time regardless of how challenging.

Wouldn't it be nice if everything was as the written word? You write it down on paper and in that instant truth and realness are injected into it. The wonderful thing about writing is that you decide what is, if you change your mind you rewrite it the way you want, and if you make a mistake you start over. It is ongoing and always transitioning, just like life.

Often when we transition it's a cleansing process where we may need to straighten up some of the rough edges along the way. I would say I am transitioning, which is a good thing because it means that I am growing too. The journey always takes you to the better part of yourself which you are ultimately transitioning to. That's why I believe it is important to not get boxed into doing just one thing, because the journey can take you to so many more places if you explore your many choices to begin with. This is what I always hope to convey in my writing-choices, openness, and as much as possible a different take on things.

Personal Website
From my first book venture I knew that I wanted to write on my own terms. This website is a continuation in the unfolding of my writing, and I am just going whereever it leads. But I can assure you that this is only the beginning. The process is an ever evolving one and I am glad to have you share it with me

Savvy Non Dieter Blog
"Food is an important part of a balanced diet" Fran Lebowitz. Sometimes we forget this in the midst of dieting, which creates an unhealthy prooccupation with food centered around avoidance and guilt. Remembering the enjoyment aspect of eating helps create a realistic and guilt-free approach. The Non-Dieter mindset and The Savvy Non-Dieter relies on this approach. Here food takes centerstage free of all negative labeling.
