A seventh-generation Texan, Janis Susan always admired and wanted to emulate the legendary Auntie Mame. And she has.

I have always been a writer, having first been paid for writing at the age of nine - an advertising slogan. I came from a wordsmith family and write because that is what I do - I could not be anything else for any length of time. I sold my first novel in 1979. I believe in living life to the fullest. As Auntie Mame said, "Life is a banquet and most poor fools are starving to death." Most of my life I've done most of whatever I wanted, which accounts for some pretty exciting adventures, including flying a plane, driving race cars, acting, being held at gunpoint in the Middle East, singing opera, and becoming a first time bride at the age of 54, after being proposed to in a beautiful moonlit garden across the road from the Pyramids of Giza.

Accomplishments

I was one of the original 50 women who in 1980 founded Romance Writers of America.
For nine years I was publisher and editor of the NT NEWSLETTER of the American Research Center in Egypt, which during my tenure was distributed internationally and was the only monthly publication for ARCE in the world.
I have been editor-in-chief of two multi-magazine publishing groups.
I am also a dyed-in-the-wool procrastinator regarding anything except writing, especially when it comes to updating my website, so please be patient with me!

Currently I am working on a lovely cozy mystery. I have also been contracted to do part of a college text on archaeological illustration to be published in Peru in 2010. My portion is the history of archaeological illustration before the Napoleonic paradigm shift of 1798.
My husband (a Naval captain) is currently serving his second deployment in Iraq, so while he is gone, I am doing some remodeling to our home.
My new romantic mystery ECHOES IN THE DARK is coming out in August from Vintage Romance Publishing, while my traditional Regency Romance SECOND CHANCE comes out this winter from Awe-Struck.
My current releases - DARK MUSIC (VRP), THE OTHER HALF OF YOUR HEART (Red Rose Publishing)and THE LAND OF HEART'S DELIGHT (a wonderful memoir of my mother's life during WWII - Swimming Kangaroo Books) are all doing well. You can read excerpts on my website.
PASSION'S CHOICE, my time-travel romance to Ancient Egypt has been bought by Red Rose Publishing, release date unknown. That's about all.
Oh - one more thing. I've just agreed to be one of the hostesses for the third annual Buns and Roses Tea for Literacy in Richardson, Texas. So far I've made every one!
