I am a trumpeter and music historian who somewhere along the way became a crime thriller novelist. Boston was my stomping ground for many years. While teaching music at several NE colleges (Brown University, Wheaton College, Berklee College of Music) and playing all sorts of trumpet gigs, I began writing fiction. My inspiration was a scriptwriting course at Emerson College that put me in touch with my dark side. Or maybe it was my evil twin.
A few of my favorite authors are Elmore Leonard, John Sandford (Prey series), and Patricia Cornwell (Scarpetta series).
In 2001 I moved to New Orleans. I love the music scene (jazz and classical), the architecture, the climate (except for the hurricanes), the people (most of them) and the active writing scene. I still practice my trumpet every day and do lectures from time to time on jazzwomen (my specialty), but I try to spend most of my time writing.
ABSOLUTION is my first published crime thriller, and I'm hard at work on the next one, which also features my series protagonist, relentless and quirky NOPD detective Frank Renzi.
I'd love to have you visit my website, www.susanfleet.com, which, in addition to my novel and samples of my solo trumpet CD, features profiles of outstanding women musicians, jazz and classical.
I am a member of Mystery Writers of America, Sisters in Crime, Romance Writers of America, National Association of Women Writers, and, on the music side, I'm a charter member of IWBC (International Women's Brass Conference).
I hold a B.S. in Mathematics (with a music minor) and an M.ED. in Fine Arts.
