As a lifelong reader of Fantasy and Science Fiction books, the main driving reason for me writing The History of the Aeithar is the fact that most Fantasy books have a very similar setting: Middle Ages, organised Warfare, and Magic already well established. This always left me pondering two important questions:-
How did they get to this point? How was Magic discovered, and when did all the wars start?
What happens as their race advances? Eventually someone is bound to put two cogs together and the society will become industrial, how will Magic fit into a modern society?
I really wanted to explore these ideas, and so I designed the initial History of the Aeithar series, comprised of six books, the first three Fantasy and the second three Science Fiction. In these, I explore the above questions, and many other themes and ideas, by setting the first of each section much earlier than is traditional, at the point the discoveries are made and the concepts first explored, the second of each section at the more traditional point, and the third of each much later.
I then expanded the concept further, and designed two more interlocking series, again looking at how they got to that point, and what happens afterwards.
I have outlines for a fourth series, and concepts for a fifth, but for now I’m just concentrating on getting the original three done.
