I have written poems off and on since I was eighteen. More off than on. After leaving Bangladesh at age 25, I stopped writing for a number of years because I was pursuing a Ph. D. in English, I could not make an easy transition to imaginative writing in English. Wrote and published a number of short stories in the 1990's and abandoned an attempted novel after about one hundred pages. Lately, I have gone back to wrting poems in which I explore my own sense of rootlessness, bewilderment, love, nostalgia, and ways of making a home in the world around us, wherever we are.
Influences are a legion and not just literary. In fact, when I write, I am more often impelled by a musical sensibility (of the Ragas). Favorite poets and writers are Pound, Olson, Plath, Woolf, Tagore, Shakespeare, Rilke, and countless others.
