Background Information

A little background info...

Most of my education has come from The University Of Life with more tee shirts worn, washed, ironed and put away than I care to remember.

One particular tee shirt worn at the Public Grammar School in Winchester that I attended as a child was the inspiration for the horror/occult book, The Forces Of Grey. The first part of the story is based on a truth, a truth so horrifying that at the time, unlike the characters in the book, I did not pursue it. Later research has convinced me that, in not pursuing this truth, I made a wise choice. The realms of the occult, although easily proven to exist, remain a vast unknown with the many experts on the subject being but chickens in a barnyard attempting to debate nuclear physics. Therefore a chicken has written the second part of this book - however, one privileged to have had its own personal insight of the truth.

The first print run for The Forces Of Grey ended, but with used copies of it seen changing hands at over $90 (and me receiving zilch of that!) it was re-published in 2006.  On sale now, and with a new-look cover.

The Elephant’s Nest is a thriller motivated by another tee shirt found in my drawer. It is based on the illegal drugs trade with the associated gangland warfare that operates unseen behind many seemingly innocent nightclubs. Set in a fictitious seaside town on the west coast of England, although today it could be representative of many a home town, it tells the story of a naive ‘decent’ family who are plunged into this undercover world when they inherit a nightclub. Although technically a thriller, this book embraces all the real horror that is inherent in an underworld lifestyle.  Published in 2006.

DAMON - The Providence Of Pan, is the latest book at this time and I suspect it will prove to be highly controversial. The much misaligned and misunderstood Pan, often incorrectly believed to be the youngest of the gods and the only deity to have perished, returns with a vengeance. His self-given task is to save mankind from the combined and growing strengths of the evil ones who have increasingly influenced Earth since the day that J.C. failed in his mission. With that failing resulting in the instantaneous demise of the over-stretched El - the only deity that has ever truly ceased to be - it has taken little more than two thousand years for mankind to be faced with global warming, rising sea levels, receding land masses, crop failures, a critical shortage of fresh water, growing social disorder on a massive scale, and an impending world war with weapons capable of world-wide annihilation. Armageddon approaches, with one major ingredient missing - without El there will be no second coming; no salvation. Enter Pan. Enter a mystified young man from an orphanage. Enter the real world of tomorrow.  Published May 2009.

Readers of my humble offerings will soon discover that I never let grammar spoil a good story.  I write as I wish it to be read, breaking every rule going if needs be. Would the lead into Star Trek have had the same impact were they not to have 'boldly gone'? I don't think so. There are plenty of excellent writers around to entertain readers who become ill at the first deviation from grammatical correctness.  I am happy to leave excellence to them. Neither am I one to write page after page of irrelevant drivel merely to fill space.  Necessary description or background, yes - but completely unconnected waffle is a no-no in my books.  How I hate that!  I like to keep the story moving.

In addition to my novels, you may over the years have come across various articles of mine that were written under a whole host of different names and that appeared in many of your favourite magazines for a pittance. These days I rarely do such work - there is no longer the need.

Much of what I do today is done for free, but for good reason, and many of the articles may be reproduced at no financial cost with the obligatory link.  Recent works have been for the gay community and include: Am I Gay?; Coming Out of the Closet; Safer Sex is Much More Fun!; and Coping with the Gay Scene.
