A writer and reader of eclectic taste and background.

Background Information

Most of my professional career was spent as a copy editor and proofreader.  Now, I'm in the middle of a career change--from publishing and marketing to the health care field.  In spite of the physical and emotional trials of working in health care, I also find a lot of personal satisfaction.  I finally feel like I'm doing something for the greater good.  Little is as spiritually rewarding as realizing you've touched another soul and helped make someone's life a little easier, even if only for a little while.

In writing, Stephen King has had the greatest impact on me. Not for the content of his books (which are great fun in any case), but for the simplicity and imaginative quality of his language alone. Not to mention he always makes me laugh out loud. Picking up a Stephen King book is for me like slipping into a favorite pair of jeans.

Other authors who have had an impact on me are John Irving for his very honest, very human portraits; Laurell K. Hamilton for her humor and casual tone; and Anita Shreve for simplicity and a truly beautiful writing voice. I value simplicity in storytelling higher than anything else, I think, and I continually strive to achieve that quality in my own work.

Accomplishments

CURRENTLY:
--Nurse Assistant/Patient Care Tech, Provena Mercy Hospital
--Nursing Student, Waubonsee Community College
--Member Phi Theta Kappa for academic excellence
--Member National Technical Honor Society for academic excellence

FORMERLY:

--Founding member of recorder duet, Tabardyn, Bristol Renaissance Faire, Kenosha Wisconsin--6 seasons

Additional Information

Working at the Bristol Ren Faire was probably the most rewarding experience I've ever had. I played music I loved for six seasons with two different partners, and alongside some very phenomenal musicians. The actors are talented, dedicated, wonderful people from all walks of life, and I met so many people whose faces I now miss terribly. Here's a health to the company...
