Background

Alice Rene has worked as a medical social worker and travel consultant, escorting groups to exotic foreign destinaltions. She filmed these adventures and showed them at schools, clubs, and private gatherings. Her grandson's high school social studies class assignment launched her career as a writer. He chose the Holocaust as his topic and interviewed Alice as part of his paper. That prompted Alice to write about her harrowing escape from Europe, the difficulties of bringing her European culture to the new American way of life, and the problems of living within a troubled family. Her struggle to make peace with her identity is told with pathos and humor and reads like a fictional story.
