Academy of Western Artists Award Winning Cowgirl Poet! When you live on a ranch, the good stuff writes itself!

Background Information

Debra's family background includes Cowboys and Indians. In addition to writing and music about her ranch experiences, she also shares the stories of her Cherokee ancestors through poetry, story and song. A native of Oklahoma, with family background in Texas and Oklahoma, Debra stives to perserve the Culture and Traditions of the West as seen through the eyes of one who "walks in both worlds". A registered member of the Cherokee tribe and a rancher experienced in raising cutting and ranch-bred horses; Debra imparts a sense of both sides of her family upbringing, while giving the reader or listener and education in the history and present of the West.

~~~~~~~~ She was greatly influenced by her Grandfathers and Great-grandfathers and the strong women of her family. She is particularly proud of her working relationship with Jesse Statham Mystery writer the late Jeannie Sutton Hogue, who quoted Debra's poetry in her novels.
~~~~~~~~ She believes all families should share their histories; “Because in looking back, we can more clearly see where to go. A common history is what defines family and country. After-all, we make the world we live in. For good things to survive, we have to accept the
responsibility of promoting their positive aspects. Preserving our Western Culture is our duty and our sacred trust."

Top Cowboy Poetry site on the web with millions of viewers. This site has the Old Yellow Slicker seal of approval. Along with featuring Debra Coppinger Hill as Resident Cowboy Poet, it also features many aspects of the Western Lifestyle, as well as Cowboy Poetry by those who live the Western Lifestyle. ~~~~ Featuring the art and graphics of D.Enise, Debra allowed her work here for one reason only...the web-master was HONEST. Having been dupped by an unsrupulous "word rustler", who stole Debra's poetry and posted it as his own, Cowboys-n-Cowgirls called Debra to tell her when they found out they had played an unwhitting part by having it on their site. To make things right, they offered to post Debra's work with the correct information as to the author and a bio about Debra. Impressed with their honesty and candor, and their desire to do things "The Cowboy Way", Debra agreed to the deal. She is proud to be associated with folks who aren't afraid to do the right thing and wants to thank Cowboys-n-Cowgirls for their efforts to perserve and promote the Spirit of the West. ~~~~ Tell them Debra & the crew sent you!
