I write from dreams; an unusual source of inspiration but to me, a way of life.
I'm a 23-year-old author and freelance journalist from Glasgow, Scotland.
My dreams can be a little disturbing at times but I wouldn't change them for the world as they've helped me to write my first two books and now my third, Grassmarket Blood (which I'm about halfway through at the moment).
Just knowing someone has enjoyed my work and has been able to take something away from it, however small, makes it all worthwhile for me.
Below is a little article about me, what I do and why I do it. Feel free to get in touch me via the email address on my website ~ Bronwen.
'The Girl Who Writes From Dreams'
Escaping Dreams, Bronwen Winter Phoenix's debut novel was released last
summer and Bronwen revealed her ideas came from somewhere just a little
"I write from dreams," said Bronwen, "I have the most vivid dreams that
sometimes play out like movies and sometimes they are highly complicated,
twisted and even horrific in detail. They are emotional too. They can scare
Escaping Dreams is fantasy/horror fiction and based on a world called Orenia.
It focuses on two main characters; Xanther Aerts, an unlikely hero finds a
newfound freedom, having confined himself to his apartment. He suffers from
a form of agoraphobia which means he is only able to leave his house at night
under the cover of darkness.
When he meets Beth Elretha by chance and saves her life, they are thrown
together in a journey of epic proportions. Beth's dreams haunt her every-day
life and it soon becomes apparent she is not all that she seems – she is in
fact from another world.
The action centres on a dying town overrun by gangs, including Sam Cullen's.
As the town grows more deserted the extremity of the situation brings to life
the underground which holds a flourishing city, a city where Beth first found
her new home.
As her secret starts to escape her she must defend all that she holds dear,
against the once-powerful race of the Chaka.
Bronwen, 23 from Glasgow, Scotland said, "The story starts off quite dark but
then light shines through. I tried to fill my writing with beauty as well as
"Writing from dreams feels more like writing from a memory than something made
up in your mind. It's like the story has already happened and you're just
writing it down. My dreams are almost like a trip to the zoo on acid."
Bronwen's second novel is 'Nightswallow', a more mainstream/supernatural horror story which deals with the eventuality of death and also love, in which main character Night has to come to terms with her own death and stop her killer from destroying all that she lived in life.
Bronwen is currently working on her third novel, an Edinburgh crime thriller entitled Grassmarket Blood.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
GLASGOW AUTHOR LAUNCHES NEW NOVEL WITH GLASGOW SIGNINGS
With the sell-out success of new book Nightswallow’s launch under her belt, Glasgow-based author and freelance journalist Bronwen Winter Phoenix is celebrating the release of her latest novel with yet more book signings around Scotland.
Nightswallow is a supernatural/horror tale with a difference – two, in fact.
Firstly, the main character, Night, is dead and has to come to terms with the love she lost, through an emotional rollercoaster journey.
Secondly, 10% of publishing profits are going to Sightsavers International, to help with the charity’s work combating blindness in developing countries around the world.
Inspired by her own dreams, 23-year-old Bronwen’s latest novel manages to delve into some of life’s biggest questions – such as what happens to us when we die – and stirs the imagination by dramatising everyday struggles to find meaning.
The book has been described by Paula McGerr of Shelfari as “another triumph ... an excellent book which makes you think,” while Nici Ford of BCF Reviews called it a “fantastic book” that hooked her from the first line. “You are taken into the past as well as the present; both stories intertwining brilliantly. I loved the characters, and the description of places, people and events were brilliantly written. This will go down as one of my favourite books of the year.”
Nightswallow celebrated its launch at Borders in Buchanan Street on February 28 and was quickly sold-out as the book sparked an interest for the customers.
The special signing sessions will take place at Waterstones in Argyle Street and WHSmith on Argyle Street on March 14 and March 21 respectively.
The author is available for interview.
