I enjoy writing about things that ring true to most people, including myself. The only exception to this rule was the "Self" series because it was an idea that I'd had when I was in the 8th grade. I wasn't able to express the concept then, but the time finally came when I could eventually.
I find that most of my writing comes from things appearing naturally when they're most unexpected, a headline, an interestingly spoken sentence, really anytime I'm not pondering it.
"A Personal Hell: Don't Ask, Don't Tell" I felt was a story that needed to be told. I am a 12-year Army veteran with 4 deployments under my belt. Long story short, I was kicked out of the military because of my sexuality even though I outperformed many of my peers. The novel is fictional, but it has elements of truth that are unavoidable when considering my personal military history.
Due to one of my college classes, Young Adult Literature and again influenced by my personal life, "Dissecting Sean Connor" was born. So many teens today are dealing with issues like bullying, their sexuality and its secrets, molestation, rape, attempted (oftentimes accomplished) suicide and self-hatred. I wanted Sean Connor to tell his story, reaching out to help teens who don't know where else to go.
Honestly speaking, I just want people to enjoy what I write. I'm not about the money or the fame. I write to help and to entertain. Hopefully I'm accomplishing my goal...
