I was born in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England on 13 December 1930 to Alfred Stanley Harrison and Barbara Elsie Winter. Back in those days things were not as they are now, Zepplins still floated overhead on occasion, steam lorries and steam rollers rumbled down the narrow roads. Knife grinders, Gypsies, Window cleaners and door to door salesmen plied their wares. Advertising at Harrison are Copy Write, whether writin on entry or not. They may not be used without permission of the picture house was done live, mostly to sell washing powders and soap. The terms Soap Opera and Soapies comes from this period in my life.Bread and Milk and green groceries carts were pulled by horse. Things have changed since those early days, some for the better some otherwise, none the less it is still a wonderful world.
At school I was always good at composition and furthered that interest while serving in the army in Egypt and Malaya.
I married Annie Maud Gettins in 1963 and have been blessed with two boys and two girls. I am an Elder holding the office of High Priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and at present serve in the Brisbane, Queensland, Australia Temple of the LDS Church.
Some years ago my wife gave me a book of poetry by William Wordsworth. I had difficulty at first in understanding how to read his works. It was at least a month or more when it all fell into place, and I was able to enjoy his words "in tuneful order". I love the Romantic period poetry of the old Bards and to some extent my writing have been influenced by this style. It is only in the last year that I have started to put my thoughts into words.
I subscribe to a site in my old home city of Birmingham, also to a Romany site, also in England.
To have my work published world be a highlight in my life. Perhaps someone some day will think my offerings worth the effort.
