Just another Philly poet...and warrior for peace.

Background Information

An American globetrotter, my life experiences are touched by all the people I meet and places I have lived, in Latin America, East Asia, North Africa, and the Middle East.  Right now, I'm living and working in Barcelona, Spain.

The greatest influences on my life have been Mahatma Ghandi and Pablo Neruda. I speak Spanish and Arabic fluently, as well as a little KiSwahili, Quichua, Tagalog, Portuguese, and French.  I write in English these days, while much of my earlier work was produced and published in Spanish.

Mother of one, I believe parenthood opens our eyes to the importance of leaving a positive legacy on this planet.  With three books in draft, I hope to publish the first "Moon over Muscat" this year.  Painting, photography, poetry and music are the foods that nourish my soul. I'm a member of The New Beat Movement, on Pathetic.org.

Accomplishments

My poems appear on a number of poetry sites online and published anthologies. In 2003, the French Cultural Institute invited me to read as the U.S. representative and poet at their annual Marrakesh Poetry Fest, which drew French- and Berber-speaking slammers, poets, and performance artists from Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, France, and as far as the U.A.E. I also was invited to read at a poetry diwaniya in Kuwait City in 2007. My work has been awarded Poem of the Day twice on Pathetic.org for "Rain" and "Peppers and Spice," however, "Retinal Burn" is my most read and requested piece.

Additional Information

I recently moved to Europe after living and working for more than 14 years primarily in North Africa and the Middle East, most recently in Iraq. I'm interested in connecting with the creative community, particularly writers, artists, and musicians in the area. Please feel free to get in touch and leave your comments about my work. I'll take that as a cue to review your offerings to the Muse.
