One of six children of a minister and a teacher in eastern Kentucky, Evelyn grew up in a lively family where puzzles, games, books, and questions were daily fare.It wasn’t uncommon for someone to jump up in the middle of a meal to consult the dictionary or Book of Knowledge to settle a question or argument.Game rules naturally existed to be revised or expanded.Ev fondly remembers the 4-board Monopoly game (laid out cloverleaf-style) that occupied the living room floor much of one summer.
With such a background, along with having a passion for teaching from an early age, it’s not surprising that educational puzzles and games would be Ev’s forte as an author. She has a doctorate in math education and has taught at the elementary, middle school, high school, college, and graduate school levels. She's currently teaching gifted education at the primary level because that's the age she enjoys most. Thirty-four of her educational puzzle books have been published with more than 250,000 copies sold. Her books, ranging from pre-school to adult, include math, logic, visual, and word puzzles. She has also had over 100 pieces accepted by children's magazines.

Evelyn's most recent book, ALGEBRA ANTICS, is being released by MindWare in February 2009. Evelyn co-authored it with her daughter Susan. The puzzle book is for beginning algebra students (grades 5-9) and is appropriate for the classroom or home. As students work problems on a puzzle page their answers give them clues for drawing lines in a grid to create a fun picture or design. Great motivation!
