I was born in a tiny suburb of L.A. that started out looking like hell and went down from there. Being an army brat, I saw Georgia, Maryland, Detroit, much of France and Italy and bits of Germany before I was ten.
Where was I by the age of ten? Back in L.A., where else?
The point being that I'm not really "from" anywhere. I used to like to tell people I was born in L.A., raised in Virginia and disillusioned in Utah. Want more details? Like the song says, "hey, buy the rights."
My major influences are Roger Zelazny, Orson Scott Card, Dean Koontz, Stephen King, and Harlan Ellison, in no particular order. I was fortunate enough to meet Roger Zelazny before cancer got him. Since I entered my work in Writers of the Future, he read it, judged it and liked it.
Can you get a better vindication?
Other writers, including Mort Castle himself and Michael Collings of Pepperdine University have liked and recommended my work.
I hope I can live up to their expectations.
