Since the age of six, Tonisha taught reading, played creative games, and even stood in front a black board to direct children with behavioral disorders. She was able to reach these children with some very simple child trusting love. Tonisha's mother was a BD teacher aide at the school.
When Tonisha was in the 10th grade, her 5th grade teacher asked her to work in an after-school and summer tutoring center ran from her home. She tutored children from Kindergarten up to adults in college.
In college Tonisha worked as a work-study student at Southwest Louisiana Literacy Council. She organized children tutoring sessions at local community centers. Tonisha also prepared reading games for after-school programs, and assisted with the Family Reading Nights.
Upon graduation from McNeese State University, Tonisha stayed with the Literacy Council for one year of service with the Corporation of National Service, as an AmeriCorps VISTA. As a VISTA, she recruited and trained Adult/Family literacy volunteer tutors across the board. Tonisha interviewed, trained and supervised twenty-five College Summer Associates whom tutored children who failed the LEAP test. Tonisha then conducted the Family Reading Night. Tonisha wrote federal grant proposal for funding.
Tonisha's vested employment with Bellsouth/AT&T was dealing with anyone who picked up the telephone and dialed 0 and or 411 for any service. Tonisha assisted a range of 1100 to 1700 calls a day, five days a week for six years making perfect attendance.
During her employment with Bellsouth she also supervised all operator employees and assisted their customers if they experienced any challenges. Her customers always complimented her tone of service, courtesy, and respect for them as an individual.
From the years 1991-1994, beginning at fourteen Tonisha volunteered twenty hours a week every summer as a Candy Striper. She nursed infants to elderly, meeting whatever their personal needs where during her shift. Tonisha did activities with patients who were severely mentally disabled and or handicapped, combed hair, brushed teeth, read information, etc.
She currently works at the local college library as an Administrator Coordinator paying the bills. She gives spiritual guidance and interprets dreams online without charging people. She calls for peace, change, and love. Her approach is revelatory. She claims to have the key to unlock Heaven within her heart.
