I am the author of two novels, Plain Language (Touchstone/Simon & Schuster), a love story about two strangers who meet and start a ranch on the Colorado Plains during the Dust Bowl, and Easy Money (Algonquin Books), about a woman whose father gambles away her college money and sets off for New York to make her way. I recently finished White Hands, about three women friends during the El Salvador civil war--a New York Times journalist, a painter and a therapist--who become entangled with the death squads. At present, I am working on my fourth novel, Dream a World, based on the race riots and coup d'etat in Wilmington North Carolina in 1898.
